After a few years as an AvPlan EFB user, you may notice the app is using increasing storage space on your iPad.

Here are a few tips to free up some storage space:

Checking Storage Usage

In your iPad settings, tap General > Tap iPad Storage.

As you can see in the image above, AvPlan EFB is using 5.14GB of storage space on my iPad, which is acceptable given the amount of data I have downloaded.

Managing Stored Data

In Australia, data downloads are split into five sections: Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia and NSW/VIC/TAS/ACT. We recommend you only download the data for the areas you need, as data is stored on your iPad.

If you've tapped Settings > Data Downloads, downloaded the region(s) you fly in (i.e. the area is now shaded green), you have the basic requirements. The Mega VFR map includes all WAC, VNC and VTC maps for the region, all in the one convenient seamless map. This covers your map carrying requirement.

To delete an unwanted area, tap on the area you'd like to delete. This will bring up a menu which will allow you to delete data or leave to expire. Leave to expire will keep the data on your iPad until the next update, but won't download the data on the next update cycle.

If you're wishing to delete a map overlay (i.e. kml or kmz files), tap the Map Settings button

Scroll the left column of options to the bottom of the list. Locate the overlay you wish to delete, then swipe it from right-to-left.

A Delete button will be revealed. Tap it and the overlay will be removed from all of your devices.

Managing Old and Expired Data

To delete old flight plans, forecasts or data, tap Other Downloads in the bottom left hand corner of the data downloads page. Scroll to the bottom and you'll find a section entitled Maintenance. Tap on the area you'd like to delete and check your iPad storage again to see how much space you've gained!
